When given a choice, choose the path with the most Joy.
Some addicts hit rock bottom. One day life becomes intolerable, and they know that something must change. For me, small choices and small steps, compounded over time, allowed me to live my way out of the lie that life is hard and that making the world a better place requires suffering and sacrifice. After I had suffered enough, learned enough, and was ready (enough), I began to act.
In my book, Joy as the Compass, I share the wild remedies for what ailed me: paradigm shifts and belief changes that, once internalized and embodied, allowed me to reimagine and infuse my world with joy.
Key paradigm shifts include:
- Our world reflects a vibrational (not factual) reality.
- The axis of the world does not rest on sacrifice, sorrow, and suffering.
- The axis of the world rests on Joy. Joy is a choice. We all have choices.
- We most often re-create what we do not want (personally and globally).
- Anything done in resistance and suffering creates more resistance and suffering.
- The remedy to our addictions is to rewild our souls and wildcraft our lives.
- Many women leaders are feral alpha wolves who long for rewilding.
- We must become the change before we can lead the change. o Joy is the only meaningful life GPS.
Some believe that my life mantra If it isn’t Hell Yes! It’s Hell No! (And maybe is always no) is overly simplistic for “real lives” filled with mortgages, aging parents, children, debt, illness, and other challenges.
But I believe that a provocative and potent life mantra catalyzes clarity around our soul’s true yes and no, making the complicated simple. Simple does not mean easy. Nothing will be either simple or easy for those who are still arguing on behalf of their limitations.
Joy as the Compass: Freeing Yourself from the Seven Activist Addictions is for those who are ready to act, one small and intentional step at a time. It is for those who want to build the psychic soul muscle required to re-create their world, one choice at a time. It is for those who, having counted the cost of making joy their new life GPS, are hell-bent to do it anyway.
